(WFXR) – Cloudy skies for the most part over the next several days as periods of rain will define the forecast for a while.

High temperatures are expected to reach the 80-degree mark before the end of the work week, and there may even be some thunderstorms late in the day in the New River Valley and Highlands on Friday.

A ridge of high pressure in the upper levels of the atmosphere is going to allow for the temps to rise well above normal for mid to late March.

A southwest flow of air will also contribute to the warming trend.

There will be an arc of showers and storms to our west and north as the push through the next couple of days and our northern counties will likely see more rain than out Southside counties.

A line of showers pushes through late Friday into early Saturday and that should be enough to cool us several degrees. Our region will still be above normal, but only in the 70s, not the 80s.

Spotty showers taper off Saturday afternoon, and I am expecting a dry and mild Sunday afternoon.
