ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – Heavy rain is possible again as a strong storm system rolls into the region.

Because of the heavy rain on Tuesday and the potential for more heavy rain, a Flood Watch is in effect starting Friday afternoon.

Rain will begin in the early afternoon continuing into the mid- to late-evening hours.

As the cold front moves into the region and a warm front lifts northward, enough instability could form for strong to severe storms. Strong wind gusts are the main threat with a secondary threat of isolated tornadoes. 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. is the most likely time for severe storms.

Temperatures will rise through the morning but level off heading into the afternoon. Once rain ends in the evening, temperatures may still rise a few degrees.

Behind this storm system, cold air will filter into the region and stick around for most of next week. With cold air in place, light snow is possible on Tuesday as another storm moves into the region. It is too early to say exactly how much we can expect to see.
