TL;DR: Internship Brief

During my 3-month internship with the Grab Geo team, I gained valuable experience by working on internal data visualization dashboards, project management tools, and B2C mobile features. My biggest accomplishment was designing and deploying a new location crowdsourcing feature for the Grab map database, limiting over 60% (430k) of intentionally fake submissions / validations collected monthly.

In the following sections, I will showcase three specific projects:
   1. GrabFood marketing illustrations
   2. B2B cloud platform competitor case study
   3. Fraud prevention B2C mobile feature design for Karta "Map Your City" crowdsourcing.

While I won't provide extensive details about other ongoing or private projects, please reach out to me if you're interested.

GrabFood Marketing Illustrations

At the beginning of the internship, Grab campus organized cross-discipline sessions for interns to collaborate on brainstorming marketing ideas to promote the GrabFood group-ordering feature.

Our team focused on local university students, a prime user group. We identified key dates for concentrated group orders, like back-to-school and exam review dates.

As the team's design lead, I created marketing illustrations in banner and social media post formats tailored to our target groups, adhering to Grab Marketing's existing design system. We later presented our concepts to fellow Grab interns during the brainstorming session and received positive reviews from internal team leaders.

B2B Cloud Platform Competitor's Analysis

I conducted a competitor's analysis for the Geo Team to gain insights into potential upcoming projects. I thoroughly assessed Google Cloud Platform, AWS, and Microsoft Azure, examining their portal designs, key design decisions, patterns, differentiations, and unique elements that enhance user experiences. My focus was on relevant aspects to our business, avoiding deviations.

After two weeks of in-depth research, I presented a B2B cloud platform competitor case study to the 75+ members of the Geo team, receiving favorable feedback from Geo leaders.

"Map Your City" Crowdsourcing Fraud Prevention

In 2020, Grab introduced the "Map Your City" feature for driver-partners and delivery-partners to submit missing locations and earn bonuses. This helps refine Grab's map data.

However, some driver-partners have submitted fraudulent unvalidated Points Of Interests (POI) remotely from external providers, accounting for 10% of active users but contributing to 60% of collected POIs (430k) monthly.

To address this, we will tighten the POI creation and acceptance process, including restricting POI additions within a specific radius.

Design + Usability Testings

I designed and implemented fraud prevention measures for DAX submissions in "Map Your City" usability testing sessions. Over two days, we conducted eight sessions with six designers, including myself, as observers.

We collected feedback and refined the designs for developing team's implementation. In Q3-Q4 2021, this feature is projected to significantly reduce the 60% monthly of intentionally fake submissions.

The full project can be found here.

During this internship, I conducted user testings, adhered to company design system, grasped management tools / mobile development, and honed team alignment skills.
