A course in the articulatory phonetics of <strong>English</strong>, vocal sound production, points and manners of<br />

articulation, stress, intonation, theory, and oral practice, with emphasis on reading and writing<br />

phonetic symbols.<br />

Course Requirements:<br />

3 exams: 2 Midterms (25%); Final (30%)<br />

Quizzes: 20 %<br />

Midterm exams are on Thursday July 12, in the morning, and Thursday July 19, in the<br />

afternoon.<br />

Final exam is on Thursday July 26, in the afternoon.<br />

Quizzes will be given occasionally, typically at the end of a morning or afternoon session.<br />

Exams and quizzes will mostly involve reading transcribed <strong>English</strong> and transcribing spoken<br />

<strong>English</strong>. There may be some other questions with definitions of key terms and short answer<br />

questions about key concepts.<br />

Copying, sharing answers and other forms of cheating on exams will be punished.<br />

Bring the book to class each day. We will do exercises from it regularly.
