Las Vegas shines with holiday displays, sexy Santa selfies
Also, skate on a real ice rink or get bargain drinks
With a week to go until Christmas, casinos are pulling out the holiday stops.
At center Strip, the Linq Promenade features “Winter Parq” with live entertainment, a snowfall every 30 minutes and a sexy Santa taking selfies. Skating on real ice continues at Cosmopolitan and the Downtown Summerlin retail/restaurant complex next door to Red Rock Resort on the west side. And check out the elaborate holiday scenes in the atriums at Bellagio and Palazzo.
Other places for holiday displays and events are Sam’s Town (a decked-out atrium and cowboy Santa), Silverton (underwater Santa) and the Fremont Street Experience (50-foot-tall Christmas tree). Taking holiday spirit(s) literally, all drinks are $2 casino-wide at South Point, or $1 if you pay with players club points.
Big bar: The new sports book bar at the Westgate has opened. The 80-foot-long central bar faces the new monster video wall — the largest indoor screen of its kind in the world — that telecasts the games and displays the betting odds. The opening marks the completion of the first phase of a $12 million renovation of the famous SuperBook.
Las Vegas December room deals, dark days for shows
"Jubilee!" closing: The longest-running production show on the Strip and Las Vegas' last major classic-showgirl spectacular will close for good Feb. 11. Beginning Jan. 2, tickets for "Jubilee!" at Bally’s will be discounted to $34, about half the current price.
Easier qualifier: The Downtown Grand has made it easier to qualify for its $250,000 slot tournament. Formerly requiring that you earn 2,500 players points in a month, it now takes only 1,000 points to play for a spot in the finals, which will be held in December 2016.
Question: I read that White Cross Drugs is closing. Does that include the excellent diner?
Answer: It’s the White Cross Market, which was part of White Cross Drugs before it closed in 2012, that will close this month. As of now, Vickie’s Diner, originally Tiffany’s Diner, will remain open.
