Looks a bit faded, seller took longer than expected to ship. Honestly I was disappointed with the whole transaction. First book is the best...
I love Augusten Burroughs' writing. However, I think this is my favorite because he illustrates the competition in so many professions with wit and insight in this novel. I will probably re-read it several times in the coming years. A very enjoyable, wickedly snarky, insightful, and humanistic book.

A Bit Disappointing
After reading Running with Scissors and Dry, I really had high hopes for Burroughs' novel, Sellevision. Sure, it's true I wasn't crazy about Magical Thinking, but Burroughs' sense of humor is so wonderful, I thought this book would be wonderful, too. This was a great little fluff book. It's a quick fun read. But, unlike the nonfiction Running with Scissors and Dry, both which stay with the reader long after the book is finished, Sellevision is just an average novel. What makes it a bit better than the average novel is that it IS funny in lots of places-- it's laugh-out-loud funny in lots of places. It's not politically correct and it's a bit cynical. But, it's not insightful. It doesn't make you think about it for hours or days or months after you're finished. Mostly it reminded me of ... Augusten Burroughs' novel "Sellevision" is a kaleidoscopic, over-the-top spoof of the behind-the-scenes activity of cable television's home-shopping phenomenon. The action takes place at Sellevision, "America's premier retail broadcasting network," as the channel confronts several juicy scandals, involving their on-air talent. Burroughs shamelessly borrows from gossip tabloids, TV talk shows and something he understands all too well: the cut-throat world of advertising. The story line starts off with a bang as much-beloved, handsome host Max Andrews accidentally exposes himself during a "Toys for Tots" segment intended for parents and their children. A flood of complaints from outraged viewers forces the network to fire him. Meanwhile feminine role model, Peggy Jean Smythe- a married, ... It doesn't take long for the reader to realize that one of two lead candidates for the job may be the e-mail stalker: Trish Mission, the innocent, young newcomer; or Leigh Bushmore, executive producer Howard Toast's mistress. Burroughs effectively writes what he knows and throws in several witty plot twists. His clever use of product names- FuturePop Popcorn Popper, Moisture-Whik Control Panties- and his use of minor characters to sustain the story arc, keep the reader turning pages. The book is an unusually smooth read for a first novel. "Sellevision" is both light and funny, a great beach or plane read.

I would rate this book between good & excellent. I love to watch the tv shopping channels, so this book was right up my alley. I could just picture what TV hosts Augusten was writing about. I think this is a fun book to read & would be perfect for summer reading. I very much enjoyed the other 3 titles by Augusten Burroughs-he's a good read & I would recommend his books. My husband & I enjoyed them.I would rate this book between good & excellent. I love to watch the tv shopping channels, so this book was right up my alley. Another Great Book
I bought this book because I want to read everything written by Augusten Burroughs. I really liked the book, even tho, I'm not very fond of selling on TV. A well written book, and I could relate to the author.. I plan on purchasing every books that get written by this man..
