Fuel tank issues 96 F150 dual tanks
I have a 96 with the dual fuel tanks. When I switch it over to the rear tank the motor shuts off. When I switch it back to the front it will start back up with no problem. The rear tank has plenty of gas in it. Any ideas on what could be causing it would be greatly appreciated.

Not being ultra familiar with that system, I would guess bad fuel pump in the rear tank or something is restricting the flow of fuel.

check the switch on the dash, more than likely that's it. I have wrestled with these switches over the last few years. The replacement ones are garbage too. I have opened the switches up and the contact points inside get corroded. You could clean the contact points and see if that works. I replaced my switch with one i bought on amazon. It is not one made for the vehicle. It is a 15amp on/on position switch. I custom wired it into the harness and cut a piece of metal for the switch to mount to. i painted the metal black and it seems better than the ones made by dorman.
if the switch doesnt fix it then you need to lookat fuel pressure and diagnose if the problem is pump or leaking fuel line even.

Before buying or butchering a switch in, just unplug the switch & put a jumper wire in. If the rear pump makes pressure, the switch is bad. If not, no replacement switch will help.
