Nicki Minaj may have been putting on a show beyond just her opening act performance.

The Queens-born rapper claimed she “ran out of time getting zipped up,” which caused her wardrobe malfunction minutes into the broadcast, but the whole mishap was staged, TMZ reports.

Sources told the gossip site that Minaj rehearsed with the unzipped dress Sunday morning hours before the live telecast. MTV even created a makeshift dressing room directly off the stage in order to give her ample time to complete her wardrobe change.

“She could never get into that dress,” a source told Us Weekly.

“During the dress rehearsal she did the number numerous times and could not make it into the dress zipped up even once,” the source added.

“I’ve no idea why she didn’t just decide to wear something else,” the source continued. “She just didn’t have the time to change from one outfit to another, there was no way.”

The “Anaconda” rapper lightheartedly joked about incident as she arrived to the Republic Records after party at Project LA Sunday night.

“You all know I had a wardrobe malfunction,” she yelled to reporters.

She later took to Instagram to continue talking about it.

“God is good,” she wrote. “As long as a nipple didn’t come out to play, I’m fine.”
