I’ve recently been on a bit obsessed with dramatically lit illustrations, and I was amazed when someone pointed me in the direction of Tadahiro Uesugi. Hugely respected in Japan, he was brought on board as one of the lead concept artists on Henry Selick’s Coraline – but I’d not heard of him before! So I had a dig around and picked out some of my favourite illustrations for you all to enjoy!

They have a very retro-chic feel to them – reminiscent of a the kind of sophistication now popular in Mad Men and even the brilliant Catch Me If You Can. Make sure to explore Tadahiro’s site for more work, although it’s all in Japanese so requires a bit of perseverance. Go check it out!
